Completed in 2020, this custom under-stairs bookcase was handcrafted from solid Tasmanian Oak to turn an awkward angled space into useful built-in storage. Rather than leaving the area unused, the shelving was shaped to follow the line of the stairs and create a practical feature that feels part of the home.
Tasmanian Oak was chosen for its warm tone, clean grain and ability to sit comfortably with the surrounding timber and interior finishes. The open bookcase design provides storage for books, display pieces and everyday items while keeping the space visually light.
Because under-stairs areas are rarely square or standard, this project required careful measuring, planning and joinery to make the shelving fit the available space properly. The finished piece is clean, useful and understated, improving the room without overpowering it.
