A patterned solid American oak dining table and curved TV unit, designed by Olive Interior Styling and made by Don at Pride Furniture for a home in Invermay, Victoria.

Don adapted Olive’s designs where necessary so they could be produced reliably. The commission brings together a geometric tabletop, hand-turned supports and a low curved cabinet, with a custom stain connecting the colour and timber detail across both pieces.

Developing Olive’s designs for the workshop

Olive supplied the furniture designs for both pieces. Don’s role combined the practical adjustments needed for reliable construction with the furniture making itself. Each piece called for individual shaping work, from the tabletop borders and inlays to the TV unit’s rounded ends.

A patterned dining top with a defined border

Across the centre of the table, the geometric arrangement changes the direction of the oak grain. A broad border frames the pattern, with repeated shaped detail around the edge. Don hand-shaped and sanded the borders and inlays individually.

Below the top, the turned supports give the table its distinctive profile. Don made a full-size pattern, then turned the legs and base by hand on a lathe. The workshop photographs show the patterned top and the shaped base alongside the finished furniture.

A curved TV unit for the living space

The companion TV unit continues the American oak detailing into the living space. Don hand-cut and shaped its curves. Rounded ends, framed front panels and a low 450 mm height give the cabinet its own outline while keeping it visually related to the table.

Push-to-open doors keep handles out of the front elevation. Electrical access openings were not required for this commission. Cable and equipment requirements can be discussed as part of the brief for another piece.

A custom stain and protective finish

Don mixed a one-off stain to achieve the required look. He describes blending the colour across the separate pieces so it appeared as uniform and natural as possible as the hardest part of the finishing work.

The furniture was sealed with a two-pack clear lacquer for strength and resilience, then finished with hand-applied furniture wax.

Delivery and assembly in Invermay

Phil’s Furniture Freighters collected both pieces from Don and delivered them to Invermay on Tuesday 27 October 2026. Phil and the PFF team assembled the table, adjusted the TV-unit doors for even gaps and placed both pieces where required.

The delivery and assembly completed the move from the workshop to the home, with each piece positioned and ready for use.

A smaller table for the home

Don also made the smaller pedestal table pictured in Olive Interior Styling’s photographs. Phil’s Furniture Freighters delivered this piece too.
